Job Description:

The Senior Manager of Merchandising Financial Planning & Analytics is responsible to work directly with Merchandising & Supply Chain business unit leaders of The Save Mart Companies to provide a full spectrum of financial planning, analytics and collaborative support to include development modeling, analysis trending, and budgetary guidance. The Senior Manager will provide accurate and timely reporting to business unit owners in support of the Company's business and financial goals. This position reports directly to the Senior Director of Financial Planning and Analytics (FP&A) and supports this role in leading continuous improvement of value-added analytics, budgetary oversight, and strategic decision support. The Senior Manager provides insights to Executive and business unit leadership on trends, financial achievement to targets, and short & long term financial impacts to the business.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:Manage and lead financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and reporting processes for Merchandising departments and Supply Chain. Quantify strategies (i.e. 1, 3, 5 year planning) in partnership with business unit owners and provide pro-active trend analyses while creating baseline assumptions for all functional areas of financial business oversight. Develop and manage financial review process while delivering transparency methodology and accurately articulating risks and opportunities in all aspects of the role.Lead and develop the framework, management reporting and strategic planning function for Merchandising and Supply Chain business partners. Direct and manage current reporting processes for timeliness and accuracy while proactively identifying trends for all reporting timelines and cycles (i.e. weekly, monthly, etc.) Develop and manage processes to track and forecast sales, margin, and expense spending including: preparation of weekly forecast to the Corporate Finance team; monthly budget to actual variance analysis; Provide concise and accurate budgetary explanations for Executives and Board member reports.Direct and lead processes for development and maintenance of analytical tools leveraged by the business for forecasting and analyzing promotional performance, identifying trends, risks and potential opportunitiesIndependently design and execute complex ad hoc analysis; gather necessary data; summarize insights; create clear written communication documents to present findings to senior and executive leadership.Lead and develop a high performance team maximizing performance and value added support to the company while maintaining the highest ethical and moral standards.     LOCATION: MODESTO, CA

    Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

    -- Strong knowledge of core financial planning and analysis processes including budgeting, forecasting and financial control process design to include knowledge of GAAP.

    -- Outstanding analytical ability to deal with ambiguity, synthesize complex data, draw business insights and error check own work. Must have a data driven approach to solving problems.

    -- Requires very strong quantitative skills, a good sense of how to dissect problems and a strong ability to "connect the dots" - e.g. understand how pieces of data interact with each other or how one finding should inform the result of another analysis

    -- Ability to manage a team to high performance standard while developing a team for development

    -- Excellent communication skills -clearly communicate verbally, written and presentation style formats (i.e. email, PowerPoint, formal letters,)

    -- Strong organizational and project management skills and mindset- must have demonstrated ability to implement and manage strong control and reporting processes; able to complete work under tight deadlines

    -- Strong attention to detail

    -- Customer service mindset to build and foster dynamic working relationships with all internal customers through the company

    -- Good understanding of basic financial, statistical and economic concepts

    -- Strong business technical skills with proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint and the ability to quickly grasp and learn new software applications and large data sets (i.e. Adaptive planning and Essbase)

    Education: Bachelor's degree required - CPA or MBA preferred

    Experience: Must have minimum of 7 years of experience with demonstrated success at increasing levels of responsibility in analytical roles. Retail experience preferred.

    Other: Some travel.

    Physical: Basic office environment: ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, stoop, use stairs, reach, pull and lift objects
