About
Established in 2004 as the fourth college in the Los Rios Community
College District, Folsom Lake College (FLC) is a vibrant teaching
and learning environment that sits on the traditional home of the
sovereign Nisenan, Maidu, and Miwok peoples who have a unique and
enduring relationship stewarding this land since time immemorial.
Despite colonization, occupation, and genocide, the Nisenan, Maidu,
and Miwok people continue and thrive in their resilience and
self-determination. FLC celebrates and recognizes its Nisenan,
Maidu, and Miwok tribal neighbors and honors their sustained
existence.
With an enrollment of over 10,000 students, FLC is an Asian
American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution
(AANAPISI), an emerging Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), and
serves Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) students. The
College is comprised of the Folsom main campus and its two
educational centers, the El Dorado Center in Placerville (EDC) and
the Rancho Cordova Center (RCC). The college also serves students
at multiple local state prisons through an extensive Prison and
Reentry Education Program (PREP) and is expanding access to high
school students through dual enrollment and middle college
programs. Combined, these form a dynamic learning community
committed to academic excellence, innovation, educational equity,
inclusive excellence, and social justice.
Our Strengths
Folsom Lake College centers student success by providing a broad
range of degree and certificate programs and student support
services in different modalities (including online and hybrid) that
prepare students for transfer and/or career opportunities, as well
as options for student engagement, innovation, and leadership. The
college provides educational environments designed to empower,
inspire, and enrich all student populations including employment
opportunities to provide economic pathways for students from
historically underrepresented backgrounds.
One of Folsom Lake College's strengths is its Equity Center which
fosters community, supports disproportionately impacted students,
and creates a safe space where BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ students,
faculty, and staff feel welcomed and included. The Equity Center
offers in-person, online, and hybrid programming, professional
development, counseling, tutoring, and more.
The College also incorporates the newest technologies for
innovative classroom instruction, including collaboration with the
Innovation Center/Makerspace at the main campus. The Harris Center
for the Arts presents a distinguished program of arts, culture, and
entertainment that engages the entire region and is home to FLC's
visual and performing arts instructional programs. The
award-winning Falcon Athletics provides opportunities for
student-athletes to succeed both on and off the field. In Fall 2025
a new 75,000 square feet Science Building will be completed
focusing on STEM-related fields, including a MESA program.
Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Social
Justice
Our college community honors equity, diversity, social justice,
antiracism, and environmental sustainability as foundational to
academic, campus, and community life. We commit to data-informed,
equity-driven decision-making, planning, and reflective processes
that are responsive to the diverse identities and experiences in
our community.
We seek to empower marginalized voices, nurture our many identities
