Oversees the protection systems installed and owned by PG&E.
Manages the teams that specify, design, and apply protective relay
packages for reliable and secure operation of distribution systems.
Provides system support for departments that interface with
protection schemes. Develops testing procedures. Performs fault and
disturbance analysis, system modeling, documentation maintenance,
training and audits of protection equipment. Coordinates
information exchange with other utilities and regulatory bodies.
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and West
Sacramento/San Ramon/Fresno based on business needs. PG&E is
providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes
it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This
compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The
actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple
factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education,
licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic
location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful
candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or
entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a
case-by-case basis related to these factors.? A reasonable salary
range is:? Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area) $163,000.00 Mid Base

$263,000.00 Job Responsibilities Acts as a technical lead, reviews
diagrams, relay settings and protection requirements prior to
implementation. Advises on the programming of microprocessor
devices. Analyzes events and writes reports. Coaches, develops, and
leads the System Protection Engineering team to achieve the
department goals and the individual members’ development
objectives. Contributes to group financial performance by
monitoring budget, controlling costs, engineering time sheets, and
reviewing and approving expenses. Coordinates with engineers to
manage workload and accomplish specific performance objectives set
for system availability, project completion, special assignments,
and new technologies. Enforces procedures and related documentation
processes to ensure compliance with regulatory standards including
CAISO, WECC, NERC, and FERC. Interacts effectively with external
entities as needed. Ensures team can support operations in fault
location activities by retrieving relay data, using fault studies
and working with operation and maintenance personnel to gather data
and locate the fault. Ensures that protection engineering team has
resources and tools available to support customer outage
restoration 24/7 with emphasis on expedited restoration. Ensures
that quality is a priority and human performance errors are
identified, lessons learned disseminated and standards and
guidelines are followed. Manages and executes relay upgrades and
replacement capitol project. May develop standards (schematics
including equipment selection and required inputs and outputs) for
System Protection. May provide customer support for interconnection
customers such as generation or large-scale distribution.
Participates in the clearance process of equipment to be isolated,
making sure there is adequate protection. Supervises 7-14 direct
reports including engineers and support staff Supports Operations,
Substation Engineering, Test Department, Electric Technicians.
Supports the identification of work to create a sustainable and
highly reliable protection and control system at PG&E by
providing input on five-year plan and prioritization of work. Lead
the System Protection Public Safety Power Shutoff technical team.
Supervised Protection Engineers working on the technical
requirements for Islanding protection schemes. Work closely with
PG&E Investigation Team and PG&E legal team in preparing
responses for data request due to wildfires in PG&E. Provide
responses to PG&E Data Response Unit, reviewed reports from
PG&E legal team for accuracy and help provide responses to CPUC
and Cal Fire investigators. Qualifications Minimum: Bachelor’s
Degree in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis in System
Protection or specific to the field of electrical power. 7 years of
protection engineering experience Desired: Masters Degree in
Engineering-Electrical or job-related discipline or equivalent
experience Experience in working with union-represented employees
Experience in substations Experience in protection testing and
commissioning Experience in grid operations Leadership experience,
job-related PE-Professional Engineer license LSS-Lean Six Sigma
Certification PMI-Project Management Institute PMP-Project
