Job Description:

UES, Inc., an innovative science & technology company in Dayton, OH, has an immediate opening for a Program Manager to lead our Flash and Laser Airborne Protection Systems (FLAPS) program supporting the Air Force Research Laboratory, Materials and Manufacturing Directorate's Photonic Materials Branch at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, OH. The FLAPS program involves the development of aircrew eye protection against nuclear flash and directed energy weapons threats across multiple wavelengths in the electro-magnetic spectrum. Technology development will involve both absorptive and reflective based systems, and both static and dynamic (temporal and spectral) advanced filtering technologies. Transition considerations such as pilot acceptance, cockpit compatibility and logistics support after deployment will also be part of these duties. A successful candidate must have strong leadership and managerial skills with a record of success in leading DoD programs. Experience in the application of systems engineering principles to the advancement of technology development is necessary. A working knowledge of flight line and operational aircraft procedures and a pilot's operational environment would be beneficial. Responsibilities will include daily management and coordination of technical execution of the FLAPS program in concert with government customers, direct employees and subcontracted technical support. Integration of a multi-disciplined team will be essential, each contributing unique aspects to an overall protection program focused on technology readiness level (TRL) advancement. Reporting of technical status, advancements, and tracking/reporting of financial status of the program to government representatives will be required. Contributions to and evaluation of technical objectives and program strategies will be expected. Leadership in the conception of and advocacy for technology transitions to fieldable applications will be important. Conscientious and proactive support to the various FLAPS customers will be critical to the candidate's success. Customer satisfaction will be of equal value to technical advancement. Requirements:

  • B.S. in a scientific or engineering field or equivalent work experience
  • 10-15 years of experience in leadership and supervisory roles; experience in a government/DoD work environment a plus
  • Knowledge of financial management, tracking and reporting methods
  • Experience in customer relations and staff development
  • Must have the ability to obtain a security clearance
