Job Description:

Position Overview: Develop and implement the growth strategy for each assigned Sutter Health (SH) affiliate including expanding provider networks, acquiring practices, cultivating new service lines, fostering excellent marketing and public relations with community physicians. Supervise all facilities management, including overseeing the construction of new facilities, managing leases of current buildings and other business aspects, and implementing the contracting strategy in alignment with corporate policies and federal/state regulations. Direct the strategic and business planning for any assigned enterprise initiatives, as well as for designated affiliates and business lines. Identify opportunities for business and product expansion, complete with feasibility studies and risk analysis in collaboration with operating executives. In addition, partner with senior management, affiliate executives, and the corresponding operating unit (OU) VP of Strategy and Business Development to cascade strategies and direct linkages through the OU and affiliate business plans and budget processes. Function as an effective resource to executives, management teams and boards of directors. Coordinate and align market-driven growth across assigned affiliates and corresponding OU while aligning with the enterprise growth strategy. Qualifications: Education: Bachelors Degree in Business, Finance, Healthcare Management or related field or Bachelors Degree in any other field and experience in Business Development is required. Masters of Business Administration (MBA), Healthcare Administration (MHA), Public Administration (MPA) or related field is desired. Experience: Extensive proven experience demonstrating positive results as typically achieved in 6-8 years of progressively responsible management roles, including strategy development for regional or multiple care centers. Expertise in strategic planning, business or new product development, financial management, and mergers and acquisitions as typically acquired during 5-7 years of business development experience. Demonstrated experience in providing strategic leadership and intervention at the highest organizational levels (C-suite) and board of directors, as well as at the operating unit, affiliate and entity level. Proven experience in developing and implementing significant program and facility investments to improve the strategic position of an organization. Prior experience demonstrating the ability to align planning, budgeting and forecasting processes into an actionable strategy that delivers the desired results. Relevant industry experience required with a background in consulting or a matrix management environment preferred. Strong healthcare and financial/operations experience in a complex health care institution, large-group multi-location medical group management or multi-hospital environment is preferred. Skills and knowledge: Thorough knowledge of methods and techniques for strategic planning, business and product development, risk and financial management, marketing strategy and tactics, and communications planning within an integrated and highly matrixed environment. Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare operations, physician group, ambulatory, and patient care financing, as well as standards and laws applicable to managing business development and planning issues. Diverse knowledge of healthcare trends, industry direction, regulatory compliance, competitive intelligence, and market research with the ability to integrate the information into actionable strategic and long-range plans. Astute knowledge of an advanced managed care marketplace and strategies which promote enterprise-wide, integrated solutions for payers and plan sponsors. Knowledge of the healthcare industry and health insurance, including a working understanding of healthcare reform is preferred. Working understanding of business and financial practices, compensation, strategic planning activities, and the ability to effectively communicate, interact and work with all levels of staff, physicians, and leadership within Sutter Health. Understanding of and experience with Lean or other process improvement philosophies and methodologies desired. Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with hospital executives, Boards, medical staffs, clinical leaders, business leaders, vendors, and other key customers to ensure effective management of complex, multi-faceted business development projects is required. Strong analytical and financial management skills, including market assessment development and ongoing profitability monitoring, with the proven ability to achieve sustainable and significant cost efficiencies on an organization-wide basis. Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with hospital executives, Boards, medical staffs, clinical leaders, business leaders, vendors, and other key customers to ensure effective management of complex, multi-faceted business development projects is required. An ability to energize, mobilize, influence, and build accountability through effective communication of vision, and the fostering of productive and supportive working relationships with internal and external constituencies. Demonstrated ability to foster an interactive and collaborative environment, to influence individuals or groups with diverse opinions and to enlist cooperation without direct control/authority while building high performance teams committed to accomplishing initiatives in ecosystems that may be resistant to change. Exhibit strong analytic skills to resolve complex issues, drive through obstacles, develop optimal growth opportunities, and deliver effective business solutions that meet the goals of the foundation(s), medical groups, operating unit and the enterprise. Proven ability and experience working across a wide range of care delivery environments and providers and collaborating with essential business partners, with the ability to build consensus. Superior negotiating and problem solving skills with the proven ability to research, investigate and analyze issues to offer effective, insightful solutions. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate business complexities into lay terms and interact diplomatically and effectively with a broad and diverse group of peers, executives, physicians, payors and vendors. Advanced level of competency in Microsoft Office Suite, as well as other relevant software for research and analysis.
