Job Description:

Support Counselor will provide one on one support with emotional and behavior problems in coordination with Social Worker and resource parents. Direct Care Staff will work in the group homes to nurture and provide structure to children in need. Essential Job Functions: 1) Ability to work in non-conventional therapeutic settings. 2) Ability to work harmoniously with others. 3) Ability to communicate ideas in oral and written form using BIRP method. 4) A genuine caring for emotionally/behaviorally disturbed children. 5) Provide support and training to families in the program. 6) Ability to apply organizationally established behavior modification techniques to modify behavior. 7) Must possess knowledge of mental health programs and community resources. 8) Mental and emotional health adequate to perform job duties. 9) Physical capability to physically hold children, lift over 20 pounds, and engage in physical activity including various sports, sitting, walking, bending, climbing, kneeling, twisting, reaching, etc. 10) Ability to manage crisis. 11) Provide a safe, teaching environment for clients 12) Ability to establish appropriate relationships with the clients and staff. 13) Model socially appropriate behavior. 14) Represent Sierra Vista Child & Family Services in a professional manner at all times, and in all settings. 15) Availability to work irregular hours to meet the schedule needs of the program. 16) Availability for on call. 17) Ability to take direction and accept/implement feedback immediately. Responsibilities: Direct Care Staff - Short-Term Residential Therapeutic Program 1) Maintain organizational and CCL approved certificates and training hours. 2) Ability to follow and maintain the house schedule. 3) Help in maintaining the facilities and cleaning as appropriate. 4) Transportation of youth as needed. 5) Complete required paperwork in a timely manner. 6) Utilize recreation as a therapeutic aid. 7) Participate in primary crisis prevention and/or crisis intervention. The agency requires 30 hours of formal training. 8) Safeguard the dignity of each child and protect the rights and the individuality of each child so as to enhance his/her self-respect. 9) Attend all in-service training programs, regular staff meetings and scheduled treatment team meetings. 10) Observe behavior, interactions and individual needs of each child and report these to appropriate staff through written records. 11) Adhere to Title 22 regulations and company, state and local rules and laws. 12) Properly administer medication for the therapeutic treatment of clients. Support Counselor - Intensive Treatment Foster Care 1) Provide direct supervision and respite care to assigned children. 2) Assist foster parents in all aspects of care and supervision of the foster child as needed. 3) Work in coordination with the foster parent. 4) Maintain a close and supportive relationship with the child's educational placement which may include in-classroom support when necessary 5) Monitor and assist the child with homework and provide tutoring when needed. 6) Ability to work effectively with cultural and ethnically diverse population. 7) Participate in all treatment review, program staff meetings and IEP meetings. 8) Provide transportation for visits with birth family, therapy appointments and court hearings. 9) Plan and lead recreational and group activities with Foster Children, including the Foster Parent's own children when appropriate 10) Complete at least 60 hours of training prior to assignment and attend all in-service trainings 11) Meet weekly with the client's Social Worker. 12) Assist the Social Worker in the preparation of the Comprehensive Treatment Plan, Quarterly progress reports, staffing summaries and other casework duties as indicated 13) Chart in-home weekly progress reports and quarterly summaries 14) Complete incident reports when necessary 15) Teach and model appropriate intervention skills for family. 16) Set limits and appropriate consequences for child in the home. 17) Development and implementation of client goals in conjunction with the Foster Family personnel. 18) Utilize recreation as a therapeutic aid. 19) Observe behaviors, interactions, and individual strengths and needs of family members. 20) Provide written notes on each contact with child/family. 21) Participate in services with local education agencies and the service provider's school, where applicable. Other: 1) Report any suspected child abuse immediately to direct supervisor or if not available up the chain of command. 2) Report any suspected dependent adult/elder abuse immediately to direct supervisor or if not available up the chain of command. 3) Effectively use Therapeutic Crisis Intervention techniques for crisis prevention and/or crisis intervention. 4) Effective use of de-escalation skills and developmental milestones. 5) Everyone who works in the organization has responsibilities for preventing and controlling infection. 6) Attend staff meetings and in-service trainings. 7) Other duties as assigned.
