Due to their rapid growth, the organization is currently seeking a new Food Safety and Quality Control Specialist/Director.

The ideal candidate would possess the desire and ability to plan, organize, and direct quality assurance personnel and programs to assure that products conform to our internal specifications, external customer specifications, GFSI Scheme, USDA National Organic Program, and Federal/State/local standards. Maintaining the excellence of our products through inspections and improvement strategies. Your typical day involves staying up to date on food safety regulations, inspecting product, running quality tests, and supporting departments in compliance of food safety protocols.

Job Responsibilities and Duties:

• Responsible for overseeing all Food Safety and Quality Control programs at the site
• Evaluates/creates/audits all programs, procedures, and policies as needed for full certification according to the Primus GFS, LGMA, and USDA National Organic Program.
• Ensures facility compliance to all regulatory requirements including FSMA, CDPH, CDFA, and Organic as well as all Federal, State, County and local laws or ordinances.
• Monitors and supports all routine Food Safety Programs activities (micro, environmental, foreign material, HACCP, pest control, Master Sanitation, GMP and other prerequisite programs)
• Responsible for creating documentation (or working with other managers to do so), implementing and coordinating Food Safety Training Program
• Responsible for all Food Safety document control
• Manages internal Food Safety Audit program and implements corrective actions based on audit results
• Facilitates all audits with third party inspectors, USDA, FDA, DOD, County, City and customer audits
• Analyze collected quality and EMP data to drive decision making and product improvement initiatives.
• Further develop and implement the Environmental Monitoring Program with technically and scientifically valid based set of measurement tools to determine effectiveness and conformance.
• Develops Supplier approval process for all type of commodities and packaging and collect any needed documentation to ensure supplier program compliance.

• Acts as the Recall Coordinator and trains the Recall Team
• Coordinate quarterly HACCP and Food Safety Committee meetings
• Must be able to juggle multiple competing projects
• Coordinates with other department managers to implement continuous improvement initiatives (shelf-life studies, quality improvement, digitizing forms and logs for efficiency, etc.).

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience:

• Bachelors Degree in Food Science, Chemistry or Microbiology preferred or a related field
• 3 - 5 years experience in the areas of Quality/Technical Services, Food Safety, Fresh-Cut Produce (RTE) and/or related fields
• 5 years of management experience.
• PCQI certification or ability to achieve promptly once employed
• HACCP certification or ability to achieve promptly once employed
• Strong analytical and computer skills (proficient in MS Excel, SharePoint, Outlook)
• Detail oriented with excellent follow-up skills
• Must be trustworthy and dependable
• Be able to work in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent leadership skills
• Ability to develop as well as maintain long-term employee relations
• Proficiency in English
• Strong verbal as well as non-verbal communication skills
• Exceptional management and organizational skills
• Highly organized

• Strong computer literacy
• Positive and friendly attitude at all times
• Bilingual Spanish and English (preferred)
