Job Description:
Overview: Job Summary: Performs a variety of functions to ensure
that quality transportation service is efficiently delivered to
customers. Position performs both field and office assignments at
the discretion of the General/Operations Manager Responsibilities:
Performs dispatching activities, operations communication, and
assignment of drivers to obtain optimum use of facilities,
equipment, and human resources.
Dispatches replacement buses for vehicles involved in accidents and
buses and operators for special services.
Supervise and instruct bus operators regarding safety, service, and
scheduling.
Ensure schedule compliance.
Assure that all routes are covered utilizing appropriate vehicles,
personnel, equipment, and information.
Make optimal use of company operating systems for the purpose of
monitoring, dispatching, and improving on street service to the
customers.
Monitor and enforce system for compliance with State and Federal
regulations, Company policy, and the Collective Bargaining
Agreement.
Directly responsible to supervise and assist in special promotions,
projects, and events if service is impacted at all.
Ensure a safe environment for the operation of service.
Partner with Human Resources, Training and Safety on employment and
development decisions.
Investigates accidents, unusual occurrences, and complaints for the
purpose of filing appropriate reports.
Responsible for filling open runs daily, including calling in
operators from home, having supervisors drive, and projecting
workforce needs.
Responsible to meet the minimum hours of revenue and efficient use
of overtime.
Ensures that duties are confined to operations only, and any
deviation from operational duties must be authorized by senior
management.
Coordinates and cooperates with maintenance personnel to ensure
efficient bus allocation to meet revenue service requirements.
Responsible for the coordination of operational supervisor staff
that are assigned to the Control Center, Field Operations, or
both.
Investigates accidents, unusual occurrences, and complaints for the
purpose of filing appropriate reports.
Qualifications: High School Diploma or General Education Degree
(GED)
Must possess a valid California license with a clean driving
record. A minimum of five (5) years licensed driving experience.
Must not have more than one traffic citation for a moving violation
within the past two years and must have no DWI/DUI convictions
within the past seven years. Must be able to obtain a CDL
Permit.
Obtaining a Department of Justice criminal background
clearance.
Read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with
the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals
in the English language, to respond to official inquiries, and to
make entries on reports and records.
Must be able to work weekends, very early mornings, days, evenings,
and holidays.
Must be able to use company communications systems and communicate
clearly and effectively in person and over the radio.
Must be able to read a map and possess knowledge of the service
area.
Must be hospitable, guest/customer service oriented, and be willing
to serve the needs of passengers.
Additional certification requirements must be met under Section
391.49 of the DOT code concerning the loss or impairment of
limbs.
Knowledge of proper operation of extra board and driver assignment
procedures
Must have excellent attendance/safety/customer service records.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as
needed.
Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to manipulate, handle
or feel; reach with hands or arms; and talk or hear.
Frequently required to sit.
Occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel crouch or
crawl; and smell.
Occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds.
100% of the workday is spent outdoors monitoring service on routes,
transit facilities, and company locations. Must be able to work in
extreme heat and cold and in a damp environment with moderate
noise.
Remaining work is accomplished in an office or in a cubicle space
equipped with a telephone and computer; time is spent sitting,
typing, or looking at a computer.
